TikTok is the home of the funniest, the strangest, the most embarrassing, and the cutest trends the internet has ever seen. The focus of today, bunny tongue lip gloss, is just about the cutest we’ve ever seen.
Now, you might be asking yourself: bunny tongue lip gloss? What is that? Some of you may know what I’m talking about just from the name alone. If you don’t, well, let me put some of your fears to rest: there are no bunnies harmed in the making of this trend. No, we’re talking about the cute color of their little tongues! Let me give you the backstory.
So, according to the TikTok user @sacheu, the bunny tongue lip gloss trend was started not on the platform itself, but instead on the Chinese social media app, Douyin. If that name rings any bells, that’s because it’s where the Douyin makeup got its start from, now going on to influence beauty trends everywhere!
On the app, an adorable bunny was posted. However, makeup fans weren’t all that focused on the picture of the bunny itself, but instead the color of the bunny’s tongue! They saw that unique shade and thought not only that it would make the perfect color for lip gloss, but that they had to try it.
And so, makeup enthusiasts began scouring makeup catalogs of all sorts trying to find the perfect shade to paint their lips with. Sure enough, they found the closest shade they could: the Sephora Collection Outrageous Plumping Lip Gloss had exactly what they were looking for, and the shade was called “Pink Pout”.
TikTok users heard of this and immediately got to work making it a serious trend, especially over in the states. @sacheu’s original video now sits at 5 million views. Now makeup users of all sorts on the app are debating on which shade is the absolute best. Some people are saying that NYX Professional Makeup Butter Gloss Non-Sticky Lip Gloss’s shade Crème Brulee is the one, while others are proposing that the Tower 28 Beauty ShineOn Lip Jelly Non-Sticky Gloss’ shade Coconut is the one to grab. If there’s one thing for sure: people are just in love with such a cute trend, and it has definitely become a staple of 2023.
